Winter Car Prep in Moldova: A Practical Checklist

Winters in Moldova are rarely mild: black ice, temperature swings and road salt put serious strain on a car. Proper winter prep saves money on repairs and lowers the risk of an accident. Here's the practical checklist we use at Sevenforce when prepping client cars for the cold season.

Winter tires come first. Moldovan law requires winter tires from December through March. Check the remaining tread depth, anything below 4 mm doesn't grip well in winter conditions. On all-wheel-drive cars we fit winter tires on all four wheels, not just the driven axle.

The battery faces its hardest work in winter. Cold cranking current drops by 30-40% at low temperatures. Before the season we test voltage, electrolyte density and starting current on the bench. If the battery is more than 4-5 years old, we recommend replacement.

Fluids need to be winter-grade. Coolant should handle at least -35°C, concentration weakens over time on older cars. Washer fluid must be the winter variant rated to -25°C minimum, or the reservoir will crack. Engine oil viscosity for winter should be 0W or 5W.

Wipers, headlights, brakes. Wiper blades stiffen after summer, replace them. Inspect headlights and polish hazy plastic if needed (cloudy lenses cut visibility by up to two-thirds). Brake pads and discs need a thorough check: on slippery roads every centimeter of braking distance counts.

If you'd rather have a professional eye on it, book a seasonal check at Sevenforce. We run a complete winter prep in a single visit and hand over a written report on every key component.
